12th anniversary notice

I found several of this posted on several walls, doors, and furniture inside our house a couple of days before December 8.

It was made by Marielle, of course. She’s quickly becoming an expert in desktop publishing.

Thanks a lot for this Marielle. Your mom and I appreciate it a lot.

Now you may remove them from the walls, doors and furniture. And don’t forget to clean up any marks from the adhesives you used.

The indefatigable Mr. Sprocket

I HAVE TALKED ABOUT QUITE a number of people in my blog. †Most of them are loved ones and friends. †Quite a handful are people who don’t really know me †personally but, nevertheless, have made (or are making) an influence in my life one way or the other. †A few are people I don’t particularly like but are interesting enough for me to waste time on.

For this particular day everybody else will have to step aside and take the back seat in favor of a person who responds to the moniker,†“Mr. Sprocket.”

On why he is called ëMr. Sprocketí visit Extreme Trail Riders. †There you will find the explanation, and a lot more.

Mr. Sprocket actually responds to several other names: †JED to most of us who works for and with him; Eduard/Edward (I think) to his significant other, Margarita;†Dad to his kids – Paolo, Clarissa, Camille and Anton; †Ed†to some friends;†Jose to e-mail spammers trying to sell him anything from a Website to some weird gadgets.

When he is not riding his KTM†525 EXC bike on some roadless mountains or dried-up riverbeds he may be working on the prototype of a designer hard hat cum golf cap cum mountaineering head gear. † Apparently, Mr. Sprocket not just wears many hats. †He makes them, too. †As †a self-professed mad scientist he invents all sorts of stuff most professional scientists will not even think about inventing. †His next project, as far as I reckon, is a specially designed pair of mountaineering shoes that may just put some popular brands of outdoor shoes out of business. †Okay, maybe not. †But the science to his inventions are really compelling you’ll look forward to buying your pair as soon as he mass produces them. The multi-faceted Mr. Evaristo

ANOTHER MEMBER of the UPMBA Housemates celebrated his birthday in September.† Mr. Alex Evaristo, MBA, turned only-God-knows-how-many-years-old last September 13.† I wonít force a figure out of him.† Do not ask others what you dread others asking you is still wise counsel.† At least we are all growing in wisdom and stature.

Alex is many things to different people but for the UPMBA Housemates he is Shaider (Ang Pulis Pangkalawakan).† I canít remember exactly how he got that moniker.† It must be Aileenís doing.† Yes it has to be Aileen.† Nobody else can make fun with a fellow UPMBA housemate and get away with it like Aileen does.† I donít really see ìThe revenge of Shaiderî forthcoming, but who knows? †The photo credit goes to Aileen, too, by the way, as usual.

Whether or not Shaider would treat the UPMBA classmates with a super blowout still remains to be seen.† After all, we are still waiting for Kiko and Kat for their respective blowouts.

Hey Alex, remember the same period last year?† We had a fun dinner with the girls at TGIF in Bonifacio High Streets.† It would have been a more interesting night if the girls didnít show up, donít you think?† Well, why donít we set another get-together and hope that the girls really donít show up this time around?

Kat’s Day

ON SEPTEMBER 4, Sachi Kat of the UPMBA Housemates celebrated her ?? birthday!

Shobe Aileen is first to greet, as usual, with this photo greeting card.

Mommy Cecile said, “happy birthday, kat!”

Kiko gave his rejoinder:†“Happy Birthday, Kat!”

Harry asked, “May nagbirthday ba? Bat parang wala akong naramdaman.††Pero sige makikibati na rin ako. HAPPY BIRTHDAY KAT AND BELATED HAPPY BIRTHDAY KIKO!!!” †He went on to add, “btw I have a new number: 0908-5296317”
Karen enthusiastically greeted her best friend with, “haberdey katttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt!!!!!
pa-burger ka naman! burger! burger! hehehe”
At this point Kat replied with, “Thank you, thank you, thank you to all of you!!!”
To which Bong retorted, “your ‘thank you’ is good but we need your blowout.”†😛
It remains to be seen whether the UPMBA Housemates will succeed in extorting a blowout from the Kat. †But we have faith in her.
I myself am feeling lucky. †A “brunch” in Tagaytay does look likely. 😀

Marielle’s 5th Birthday

<Click this link to play Marielle’s favorite dance tune:† makulay-ang-buhay>

We started her birthday celebration by giving her Nursery 2 class in Merville Sacred Heart School a little blowout. We brought a birthday cake and ordered snacks from Jollibee. We prepared loot bags, too, for Marielle’s classmates.

Her mom gave her a High School Musical dance mat, an item she’s been looking forward to have for some time now.

She also got surprise gifts from Tita Ket and Tita Winnie, her mom’s officemates at PHILIPS. Actually, she asked for these gifts on a visit to her mom’s office a few weeks back during which Ket and Winnie asked her what gifts she would want on her birthday. Without hesitation she specified a Mariposa Barbie doll and a dress, and these are what she got.

After school we went out for a late lunch at the back of Mall Of Asia (MOA) where there is now a row of Dampa-style seafood restaurants.† There were nine of us: Marielle, her mom and dad, her brother Johan, her Lolo Rocky, her Tita Orchid, their yayas Ate Baby and Ate Lalaine, and our kasambahay Ate Bitang.

From MOA we proceeded to the Manila Ocean Park where we spent the rest of the afternoon. #

Mother’s Day

This is day is doubly important to me. It is mother’s day. At the same time, it is also my father’s birthday.

But I am dedicating this blog entry to honor the most important mothers in my life. They are my very own Nanay Paz, my Mother-in-Law, Nanay Linda, and of course the mother of my kids, my ex-girlfriend and permanent house mate, Marie.

I would like to give special mention to a few other special mothers: my sisters-in-law, Ate Veron and Tina; All the mothers in my extended family –aunties, cousins, nieces; To friends who are also celebrating motherhood – Liezel Gerada, Dharl Balbin, Liezl Esguerra, Jane Quiambao, Cecile Ilagan… ; The mothers in Marie’s Bonsai Group. And to the countless other mothers who have touched my life and that of my family in so many special ways ñ I salute all of you.

Happy Mother’s Day!

Here’s a little something for all the mothers out there.

Why are you crying, a young boy asked his Mom?

“Because I’m a woman,” she told him.

“I don’t understand,” he said.

His Mom just hugged him and said, “And you never will, but that’s O.K.”…….

Later the little boy asked his father, “Why does Mom seem to cry for no reason?”.

“All women cry for no reason,” was all his Dad could say……

The little boy grew up and became a man, still wondering why women cry. Finally he put in a call to God and when God got back to him, he asked “God, why do women cry so easily?”

GOD answered…

“When I made woman, I decided she had to be special.

I made her shoulders strong enough to carry the weight of the world, yet, made her arms gentle enough to give comfort…

I gave her the inner strength to endure childbirth and the rejection that many times will come even from her own children.

I gave her a hardness that allows her to keep going and take care of her family and friends, even when everyone else gives up, through sickness and fatigue without complaining…

I gave her the sensitivity to love her children under any and all circumstances, even when her child has hurt her badly….

She has the very special power to make a child’s boo-boo feel better and to quell a teenager’s anxieties and fears…

I gave her strength to care for her husband, despite faults and I fashioned her from his rib to protect his heart…

I gave her wisdom to know that a good husband never hurts his wife, but sometimes tests her strengths and her resolve to stand beside him unfalteringly…

For all of this hard work, I also gave her a tear to shed. It is hers to use whenever needed and it is her only weakness….

When you see her cry, tell her how much you love her, and all she does for everyone, and even though she may still cry, you will have made her heart feel good.

She is special!
