Mt. Arayat’s Natural Allure

From a distance Mt. Arayat looks plain and even possibly barren.  But as you come closer to it you will realize that it is a heavily forested mountain.  And every forested mountain offers many natural wonders waiting to be discovered.

During our day hike of Mt. Arayat on December 4, 2010, armed with our point-and-shoot digital cameras, two of my hiking compatriots took photos of the mountain, the interesting flora and fauna we found in the mountain, and the surrounding landscape viewed from the mountain. Continue reading

I find both pain and beauty on these photos. †They remind us that the fate of nature rests on a delicate balance. †Natural invading forces such as pests, parasites, and animals in the wild are essential to the balance of life in our forests and mountains. †But there are much more destructive forces that nature has no defense against, such as humankind’s selfishness and greed.

I was very much intrigued by these mysterious creations. †How would vines and tendrils know where they are supposed to go? †Why would a seemingly ordinary tree trunk have a lump?
