Point and Shoot: “A Fishing Village”

Fishing VillageI TOOK this photo in one of the coves at the tip of the Bataan Peninsula in Mariveles, Bataan.  It is a typical fishing village that can be found in hundreds of other places all over the Philippines.

What caught my attention with this particular fishing village is the uniform color of the bancas — yellow.  A lone black banca somewhere in the middle provided the perfect contrast. Continue reading

Last Cristmas: Deck the Halls

Last Christmas I fancied taking photos of the Christmas decors in my sister-in-law’s new house in Bataan

Looking at the photos I took, It just occurred to me now that we’ve never really decorated our own house for Christmas. Not yet, at least.  Perhaps because we don’t really celebrate Christmas there as we always go to Bataan for Christmas Day.  Perhaps also because until a couple of years ago we’ve always felt that the kids are still too young to appreciate Christmas decorations and these may  even pose dangers to them.

Last Christmas: Good things do last

It has been our tradition to spend Christmas Eve and Christmas Day with my in-laws in Mariveles, Bataan.  For the 2nd year in a row now we celebrated Christmas in Tina’s new house.  Tina is my xxGF’s younger sister and a practicing ob-gyne doctor in Bataan.

Mt. Arayat Day Hike

Situated in the middle of the vast plains of Pampanga, Bulacan, and Nueva Ecija, Mt. Arayat stands there proud and inviting.

Every time I pass by the North Luzon Expressway on my way to Bataan, or farther north either westward to Ilocos or Baguio, or eastward to my home province of Isabela, Mt. Arayat seems to speak to me with a jeer.  “You claim to love climbing mountains but you haven’t even climbed me, and I’m just here right by your doorstep!” it seems to tell me in my face.

I’ve been wanting to climb Mt. Arayat for at least two years now.  There have been several failed plans to climb it, the last one was supposedly set on the last Saturday of November 2010. Continue reading
