LAOAG CITY. MAY 2, 2014. – It’s the second and last day of our Ilocos family road trip. We just visited the bell tower ruins of Bacarra, Ilocos Norte. Our next stop in our very busy itinerary for the day: the sand dunes of La Paz in Laoag City.
We arrived in the sand dunes of Laoag City around 1:00PM. Not the ideal time to do any of the activities waiting for us in the sand dunes. We know that all too well but we really did not have much choice. That was the only available time for us to visit the place.
Our sand dunes adventures started with basic sandboarding for beginners. Lacking the necessary gears to progress into more advanced sandboarding, Johan quickly got bored with it and we moved on to our next adventure: Extreme 4×4.
We were joined by Lola Paz as we braved the bumpy sand trails and 20-foot, 60-degree descents in our extreme 4×4 ride. It was like a roller coaster ride, only better.
Lastly, Johan tried driving an ATV all by himself.
We left the beautiful sand dunes of La Paz, Laoag City light-headed (from the bumpy 4×4 ride) but grinning from ear to ear. And we all had tustado (burnt) skins – especially me – from the 40-plus degree direct sunlight.  That’s the cost we had to pay for visiting the sand dunes at high noon.
