SINGAPORE is not exactly known as a beach destination. I’ve been to Singapore a number of times before and it never occurred to me that there are beach resorts there. Well there is at least one. And it is quite good. Surprisingly good.
I first learned about Siloso Beach when my ex-exgirlfriend and I were making our hotel bookings for our 5-day-4-night family holiday in Singapore last May. We were desperately booking our accommodations in one of the new hotels in Resort World Sentosa. However, having serendipitously timed our vacation to coincide with the Grand Opening of Universal Studios Singapore we had difficulties with our hotel booking. All the hotels in Resort World Sentosa were already fully booked except for Festive Hotel. Even Festive Hotel could only take us in for one night.
That’s when we found out about a section of Sentosa Island known as Siloso Beach.
We found an apparently old and relatively cheap hotel there called Siloso Beach Resort. But even after we’ve completed our online booking for two nights in Siloso Beach Resort we were not really expecting to spend time in the beach during our 5-day vacation. But we brought swim gears for the kids just the same… just in case. We were glad we did.
The first revelation of a potentially good time at the beach for us came when we rode the Tiger Sky Tower, Singapore’s tallest viewing tower. The Tiger Sky Tower goes up approximately 131 meters above sea level and provides a spectacular 360-degree view of the whole Sentosa Island and nearby attractions in Singapore.
It was Marielle who saw it first. A group of three small and seemingly man-made islands with small beaches facing a bigger beach on Sentosa’s main island. At the far right is a huge structure that looked like a hotel. We later learned that it is Shangri-La Hotel.
We revised our itinerary on the spot to make room for some time in this spectacularly-looking beach. From at least 1oo meters above it really did look spectacular.
