MY EX-EXGIRLFRIEND and I had the chance to visit the Great Pyramids of Giza in Egypt late last year as part of our HOLY LAND PILGRIMAGE TOUR. Yes, I am referring to the real pyramids in the real Egypt. However, our tour package did not include the other must-visit sites like the famed Luxor, with its ornate and majestic temples and royal mausoleums.
We had a taste of some of that during our family holiday in Singapore last May, as you will see in our photo slideshow below.
Ancient Egypt is one of the major “zones” in Universal Studios Singapore. Of course, this is ancient Egypt according to Hollywood, or more precisely, according to Universal Studios.
And what is Ancient Egypt without the Mummy? I am referring, of course, to the hideous Mummy in the first two of the Brendan-Fraser-top-billed hit trilogy. The Mummy is the main feature in the indoor, pitch black, and high-speed roller coaster ride that is the main attraction (sarcasm intended) of USS Ancient Egypt.
I must say that indoor, pitch black, and high-speed roller coasters offer more adrenaline rush than their regular, outdoor counterparts. I guess it is partly because they offer more “unknowns.” I found the USS Ancient Egypt roller coaster ride very scary not so much because of the many close encounters with the Mummy but because of the high speed twists and turns in complete darkness. I recall having felt the same way in the Space Mountain roller coaster ride in Disneyland Hongkong more than two years ago, which is also an indoor, pitch black, high-speed roller coaster.
Johan would have loved to join me in the roller coaster ride but he didn’t make the minimum height requirement by just a few centimeters. Marielle, as usual, was adamant NOT to join me. She claims she was traumatized when we forced her to ride the Space Mountain roller coaster in Hong Kong Disneyland. Marie had to stay with the kids.
So I had to do it alone. On one hand it was good because I could get scared and scream all I wanted without feeling embarrassed. On the other hand I had to endure it all by my lonesome self.
