The T-Rex used to be just pint-sized?

GREAT things come from small beginnings.  Including the mighty T-Rex apparently.

A recent fossil discovery at the site known as “Valley of the Moon” in Argentina seems to prove this.

This newly discovered fossil belongs to a dinosaur which has been named Eodromaeus, or the “Dawn Runner.”  I’ve never been good in memorizing dinosaur names (my kids are) so I will stick to “Dawn Runner.”

Dawn Runner, a lanky, meat-eating dinosaur that hunted prey in South America 230 million years ago, offers a snapshot of the dawn of the dinosaur era.  It sports a long neck and tail, stabbing canine teeth, and sharp-clawed grasping hands.  Sounds mean and nasty to me.  No wonder the T-rex was so mean and nasty.

But the Dawn Runner weighs only 10 to 15 pounds.  Small but terrible. It apparently it didn’t stay small, however.  A few million years later it evolved into Hollywood’s most popular dinosaur, the T-Rex.
