This is one of the few areas where third world countries, including the Philippines, are way way ahead of first world countries. Advanced countries like the US are just starting to discover what many third world countries have known all along — the nutritional and culinary values of… insects.

Until recently, bug-eating in rich countries is restricted to the belated realization that there has been an unwelcome addition to the salad or that there was an unidentified floating object in the soup.
This may soon change.
Some entomology professors from Netherlands are making a case for “…adding insects to your diet.” They observed that “not only are bugs much cheaper to produce than meat, insects produce far less waste and less greenhouse gas emissions than cows, pigs, or chickens.”
And apparently it is much healthier to eat insects than most food that we have been accustomed to eat. ”Insects are high in protein, B vitamins and minerals like iron and zinc, and theyre low in fat.”
This is bad news for insecticide and pesticide manufacturers. They better start inventing products that propagate rather than exterminate bugs.
Hmmm. Wait a minute! Am I now starting to crave for some… cockroaches? Did I hear a chorus of “Yaiks!”? Someday soon this exclamation of disgust will probably get replaced by “Yummy!”
