Visiting biblical places around the Sea of Galilee (A Pilgrimage to the Holy Land)

Sea of GalileeBest accessed from the present day city of Tiberias, the Sea of Galilee is at the center of the Galilee region of Israel.  It is in the region of Galilee that Jesus spent most of his ministry, or at least the most-recorded part of his ministry.

The Sea of Galilee is most famous for the walking-on-water miracle of Jesus. Not many are aware though that it is not a sea but a fresh water lake and is the biggest source of fresh water in the whole of Israel.

Capernaum: The town of Jesus

Capernaum, the town of St. Peter, is also known as the town of Jesus.

Peter’s Primacy

Peter’s Primacy is where the Rock of Peter can be found, a site and relic of huge value and significance particularly to Catholics who believe that St. Peter is the very first Pope, anointed by Jesus himself (“Upon this Rock I build my kingdom”).

Mount of Beatitudes

The mount (hill actually) where Jesus gave his Eight Beatitudes is also right beside the Sea of Galillee.

Mount Tabor

A little further from the coast of the Sea of Galilee and nearer to Nazareth is Mount Tabor, another mountain of biblical significance.
