The beautiful port city of Haifa (A Pilgrimage to the Holy Land)

Haifa CityThe big and modern city of Haifa along the Mediterranean coast of Israel holds at least four distinctions:

First, it is known as the cleanest city in Israel, and one only needs to drive around the city to confirm it.

Second, the most beautiful Jewish ladies live in this city, if statistics is to be believed.  It is said that seven of the last 10 ladies crowned as Miss Israel and who represented the country in The Ms. Universe beauty pageant came from Haifa.
Stella MarisThird, Haifa’s port is the only port in Egypt where Cruise ships are allowed to dock.

And lastly, what is probably the most beautiful garden in the whole of Israel — the Baha’i Garden — is found in Haifa.

But these are not the reasons our group of 50+ Filipino pilgrims passed by this beautiful Israeli city.  We dropped by Haifa City on our way to Jerusalem from Galilee on November 14, 2010 to visit the Stella Maris Church on Mt. Carmel, a place of high significance to Christian pilgrims.  We celebrated mass at the Stella Maris church.

The Stella Maris church itself offers a great panoramic view of the Medierranean Sea.

The Baha’i Garden is a few blocks away from the church, and from its upper end and view deck we had a spectacular view of the city and the famous port.
