Our visit to to town of Caesaria along the Mediterranean coast of Israel is like taking a ride on a time campule. Caesaria used to be a proud, busy, and thriving Roman city built by Herod the Great (note to self: check if it is the same Herod who ordered the genocide of children in the original Christmas story).
It is not so much for our religious experience but rather a historical and cultural educational field trip for us to visit Caesaria.
The aqueduct, originally severeal kilometers long, is a wonder of ancient day architecture and engineering. It still stands proud by the beach in present-day Caesaria, albeit already reduced to a fraction of its former length and glory.
But the main attraction of Caesaria is the Roman Theater, still in top shape and still very much usable. Although an open-air theater and facing the sea, it has a unique acoustic quality that invites the musically-inclined among tourists to belt out a tune or two.
Yesterday, while I was at work, my cousin stole my iPad and tested to see if it can survive a 40 foot drop, just so she can be a youtube sensation. My iPad is now broken and she has 83 views. I know this is completely off topic but I had to share it with someone!
