Dead Sea Miracles (A Pilgrimage to the Holy Land)

In our very first morning in the Holy Land (i.e. Israel) we experienced a miracle — the Dead Sea.

Geologically, the Dead Sea is the lowest point in the Earth’s surface at less than -400 meters below sea level.  It is more than 30 percent salt.  There’s no other place in earth like it.  It is in and by itself a miracle.

No life form can exist in the Dead Sea, thus its name.  Of course immersing for 30 minutes in it won’t kill you.  Besides, nobody has ever died of drowning in the Dead Sea.  Even if you deliberately drown yourself, you can’t.  Its bouyancy level won’t let you.  But you’ll die within minutes of ingesting less than a glass of its mega salty water.

The Dead Sea is likewise known for its curative powers.  It is not so much a miracle though but rather a natural property of the sea itself.  Its very high salt content gives its water its “medicinal” properties.  All sorts of beauty and health products are being manufactured from the water, soil, and other raw materials taken from the Dead Sea.

Dead Sea

In my book, the Dead Sea is one of those places in Earth that I must simply have to visit at least once in my lifetime.

  1. The Dead Sea has reached the third stage of the New7Wonders of Nature campaign, and we need all the help we can get.
