A Glimpse of the Promised Land from Mt. Nebo (A Pilgrimage to the Holy Land))

Mt. Nebo

Mt. Nebo in present-day Jordan marks a bitter-sweet spot for one of the Bible’s most recognizable heroes.  In this mountain, God showed the promised land to Moses.  But he was forbidden to lay foot on it.  He could only gaze.

Mt. Nebo is located in Jordan, a few kilometers away from the Dead Sea.  It does offer a panoramic view of theHoly Land.  It is just about 40 kilometers away from Jerusalem. It is said that as a gesture of goodwill for the Pope who was visiting Jerusalem at the time, the King of Jordan once installed a huge light on top of Mt. Nebo that was visible all the way from Jerusalem.

A huge cathedral is currently being built by the Franciscans on top of Nebo as a Memorial of Moses.
