Egypt’s Great Pyramids, Man’s Monument of Folly (A Pilgrimage to The Holy Land)

I’ve known all along that they are great, awesome, magnificent, majectic, and so on and so forth ad infinitum.

But all these superlatives fail in describing the feeling of wonder in seeing the pyramids with your own eyes and stepping on the very grounds they’ve been built onto and have stood on for ages.

There’s something inherently spiritual about the pyramids.  Albeit, our short visit to this world wonder was, strictly speaking, just a “side trip.”  Our 10-day pilgrimage centers on Israel, the Holy Land. Nevertheless, the Egypt leg of our trip in general, and our visit to the pyramids in particular, is supposed to give a historical context to many important events in the Bible.

Personally, I believe the pyramids represent man’s unending quest to be god.  To me the pyramids are a monument to man’s pride and greed for power.  Ironically, they also represent man’s monumental folly.
