Are cities typhoon magnets? Possible.
Cities could cause tropical storms to veer towards them, according to a new Study.
This new Study argues that the moisture levels and landscapes of cities influence movements of weather systems. Cities impose greater friction on the swirling flow because of the tall buildings and tropical storms tend to be ‘attracted’ towards areas of higher friction, the study claims.
No wonder Metro Manila seems to be affected by more typhoons than other places in the country, or so it seems.

The full report from the Study will be published in the Journal of Geophysical Research.
