HE WAS the ugliest dog I’ve ever laid my eyes on. †A cross between a Shih-Tzu and a Pug, I considered him a genetic anomaly.
Just about 6 weeks old when we met him, he was just a puppy and he was yet to be christened as “Mario.” †In fact, the first name he was given was “Muning” (typically used to call a cat’s attention), which underscores the fact that nobody was taking him seriously. †To be more blunt about it, nobody liked him. †Except Johan perhaps, which was why Mario ended up with us in the first place.
MARIO was not supposed to be ours. †He was to be my ex-girlfriend’s niece’s dog. †But the hands of fate intervened and we ended up bringing home this little ugly dog home. †Johan decided that he likes Mario to be his dog.
The first task was to give him a proper name. †It was enough that he was ugly. †It was too much to continue calling him, “Muning.” It was unanimously decided that he had to at least get a proper name.
It was a toss up between Sonic and Mario, the two primary characters in our favorite Wii game (i.e. Super Olympic Games with Mario and Sonic). †And Mario he became.
That was some time in late August 2009. †We subsequently learned that Mario’s birthdate is July 28. †He is five months old today!
Mario has since won us over with his charming ways. †Guess what? †He isn’t ugly anymore. †At least not to us in our household. †And as far as everybody in our home is concerned, Mario is a member of the family. †Everybody loves Mario.
Mario is far from being the perfect dog. †We have several complaints about him actually. †He has some nasty habits (but don’t we all?). †He chews on our stuffs and still hasn’t perfected his toilet lessons. †Five to six days a week he smells like a dog. †Obviously we tend to forget that he IS a dog.

Oh dogs are so gorgeous, i wish i could have my really loved ones of dogs. It would make my afternoon each day to see them have fun.
I named mine pugsley. ^_^ they both got that color except when he grew the light brown hair faded it’s like white brownish now. and pugley’s tail is curled like a ball my niece always inserts her hand in his tail making the tail a bracelet lol.
I trained him not to chew on slippers etc, though. buying him stuffs like edible bone, and chew toys. it really helps and it makes the dog more patient.
Thanks for your comment. Mario’s hair is also white-brownish now. He hasn’t been to a grooming shop ever yet because we like his hair just the way it is. My niece bathes him everyday and he loves to just lie there while being hosed. I haven’t seen a dog that loves getting wet as much as Mario.
Mario just turned 1-year old last July 28, btw.
And oh yes, we still love him very much. Perhaps even more.
Cheers.
