Last week’s Halloween long weekend afforded me some free time which I promptly wasted on some passive entertainment.
Saturday Night (Oct 31), I was looking forward to watching the last of the 6-part series, Apocalypse: World War 2, on The National Geographic channel to be followed by whatever would catch my fancy on HBO, Star Movie or Cinemax. But alas, Typhoon Santi spoiled my plan. I was itching to watch TV after the 12+ hours power interruption only to find out that Sky Cable was down.
Good thing my ex-girlfriend chanced upon and bought Jacky Chan’s epic movie, The Myth, on VCD about two weekends ago.
Video quality was not exactly awesome. It’s VCD so what can I expect. But the movie itself is very good. An unusual but pleasantly surprising marriage of an epic Chinese movie and contemporary HK double-time action flick. And because it is topbilled by JC himself it is pure entertainment. †I actually got hold of its DVD several months ago but I was dismayed to find out that it was on its original Chinese version. †I am very glad that I finally watched the movie and, except for the so-so video quality, I was very much satisfied.
Having finished watching The Myth and learning that Sky Cable was still pfft, I scoured our pile of DVDs hoping to find either something I haven’t yet watched or a classic I wouldn’t mind watching again.
A Brendan Fraser collection on DVD caught my attention. By that time the kids were in the room so we thought George of the Jungle might be a good movie to watch. Light and fun. But the disc proved to be a bummer. †George refused to play. †Same luck (or lack of it) with George of the Jungle 2. Oh well… The kids quickly lost interest and decided to retire to their respective rooms.
I tried The Mummy (part 1) just to check if the disc still has value or if it should already find its way to the trash bin. It worked! Perhaps because it was Holloween and The Mummy was the more appropriate movie for the occasion.
Before that evening I must have watced The Mummy at least 5 times already. So what? I consider it to be one of the best movies I’ve ever watched and I still immensely enjoy watching it, so why not?
It was half an hour past midnight when The Mummy ended. †I went to the bathroom to brush my teeth forgetting to turn off the DVD player. †When I was done at the bathroom The Mummy Returns (The Mummy 2) was already playing! †Oh geez!
And that’s how I got my red-eye zombie “costume” in time for November 1. †LOL.
