In the news the other night were stories about thousands of people trooping to Comelec offices to register.† On one hand are people telling about their hardships ñ some had to fall in line for nearly nine hours!† On the other are the Comelec officials lamenting about how Pinoyís tend to procrastinate until the very last moment and then rushing to beat the deadline all at the same time.
I have my own story to tell in so far as voterís registration is concerned.† It took me 4.5 hours to register! †I went to register last Saturday, October 24. †It was 12:00nn when I entered the queue at the Comelec Office in Sucat, Paranaque.† The line was so long I almost chickened out.† But then I really want my vote counted in the coming elections so I braved it nevertheless.† By the time I finally completed my registration it was almost 4:30pm.† My knees were shaking and I was hungry as hell.
In fairness the process was quite orderly.† There were simply too many of us going to the registration center all at the same time.

On the brighter side, I used the 4.5 hours to try to finish the e-book I started reading on my iPhone a few days back.† It was a classic:† The Last of the Mohicans.† Of course, as with other books turned screenplays, I couldnít help but second guess the book as I went along based on what I recall from the movie version.† As expected, the movie makers took liberties in changing details ñ even key characters ñ in the book to add more drama to the story. The book has a spellbinding narrative and gripping twists nevertheless so much so that, except for the increasing growling of my stomach, I hardly noticed the 4.5 hours passing by.† James Fenimore Cooper was such a terrific story teller.
True enough, I finished the book just as reached the room where my registration was finally to be processed.

I also did last minute registration. It took me about 2 hrs to complete. Good thing it was in Glorietta 4 so it wasn’t too uncomfortable.
Hi Marisa, I actually went first to Glorietta thinking that I can register in any Comelec satellite office. I was told the registration center in G4 was just for Makati residents.
