Pleasant palate memory: Fazoli’s Chicken with Flavored Rice

Chicken with Flavored Rice

Chicken with Flavored Rice

I ACCOMPANIED my ex-girlfriend in Eastwood CityWalk the other night to scout for a place to treat to dinner her now ex-officemates in Philips-Consumer Lifestyle. †We arrived there about 8PM, and after quickly deciding on Something Fishy for the big dinner in 2 days, we went to look for a place to eat.

That’s when my taste bud memory kicked in. †All of a sudden I felt a kind of rush in my throat as my salivary glands started to work double time. †At that exact moment images of food from many years past came flashing into my mind. †Also at that exact moment the words “FAZOLI, FAZOLI, FAZOLI” kept ringing in my ears.

I was working for IBM at the IBM Plaza when Eastwood City was just taking shape. †FAZOLI is one of the first shop to open in what was yet to become popularly known as Eastwood CityWalk. †Many of its contemporaries as well as shops that came much later have come and gone but FAZOLI remains steadfast. †The fact that it is still there must mean a lot.

Truth is I don’t like Mexican food a lot. †But there is one particular food in FAZOLI that I like a lot — Chicken with Flavored Rice.

Prior to the other night the last time I have eaten in FAZOLI must have been at least seven or eight years ago. †I don’t recall having ordered anything else from FAZOLI but Chicken with Flavored Rice. †Maybe I have tried some other dishes but I simply can’t remember them. †In contrast, my memory of Chicken with Flavored Rice is not just of how it looks like. †I seem to perfectly remember how it tastes and smells, too. †I guess that’s what connoisseurs†call “palate memory.”

But I don’t need my “palate memory” to remember that I also like FAZOLI’s bottomless drinks with free ice dispenser (the ice is free, not the dispenser), and of course the “bottomless” fresh-from-the-oven bread stick.
