BELIEVE IT. †There is such a thing as “Sister’s Day” and it just around the corner. †It’s on the first Sunday of August.
How did I know about it? †I got an e-mail ad from one of my favorite online flower shops, that’s how. †See photo.
My initial reaction was, “Sister’s Day? †Oh brother! Are you serious?” †Or something like that. †Everybody knows about Mother’s Day. †It is a generally-accepted and universally-celebrated once-a-year occasion. †Father’s Day is playing catch up it seems since a lot of people are not quite sure yet when it is celebrated exactly (see Father’s Day, a Confused Holiday). †But Sister’s Day? †I for one has not heard about it until now.
So I did what I always do when something tickles my curiosity or if I encounter something I have no idea about: †I googled.
Thundering barnacles! †True enough there is in fact a Sister’s Day! †At least that’s what HolidayInsights.com, among other sources, says.
Not unlike Father’s Day, Sister’s Day appears to have problems with “calendric” confusions as well. HolidayInsights.com†puts the date on the first Sunday of August, meaning the 2nd of August this year. †But some Websites, including BirthdayCards.com declare it to be on August 5, 2009. †I’ll go for August 2 for now.
I hope I’ll remember and will find the time to buy a gift for my sis. †Perhaps posting this before August 2 is not such a good idea. †Hmmm…
Post Script: †Did you know that there is also a Brother’s Day? †But that’s another blog post.
