SOMEBODY posted this on BLUE GENES, the yahoogroup of former employees of IBM in the Philippines. †Saw several versions of it in various blogs but I like this Blue Genes version the most because it was made to sound as if the whole story is a Pinoy creation.

How life turned out this way
Animals were created before man.†
†
First came the dog with the charge:†
†
‘Sit all day by the door of the house and bark at anyone who comes in or walks past. You are given a life span of twenty years.’
†
The dog said: ‘That’s a long time to be barking.††I’ll take ten and give You back the other ten?’
†
That being settled, the monkey came next.†
†
‘Entertain people, do tricks, and make them laugh. You shall have a twenty-year life span.’
†
The†monkey said: “Monkey tricks for twenty years? That’s a pretty long time†to be a performer. Can I give you back ten years like the dog did?”
†
The monkey got his wish.
†
Then came the cow who was given the duty to:†
†
‘Go with the farmer to work the field all day under the heat of the sun, have calves and provide milk to†support the farmer’s family. The cow was given a sixty-year life.’
†
The cow prayed: ‘That’s such a long time for hard work.† How about†taking back forty years? I’ll settle for a life of twenty?’
†
As always all one has to do is pray, and the cow was granted his prayer.
†
Then came man.
†
As†prized-creation, man was to live his whole twenty years eating,†drinking and being merry. †Man was supposed to enjoy life without†anxieties, worries and doubts.†
†
But the never-contented and never-satisfied man humirit pa, with the retort: †’Only twenty years? I’ll take my twenty, plus the forty the cow gave back, the ten the†monkey returned, and the ten years refused by the dog; that makes eighty. Reasonable enough?’
†
‘Okay, you asked for it,’ was the reply.
†
So, for the first twenty years humans eat, drink, play and enjoy life…†
†
After that come the life years rejected by animals.††
†
Humans enter the forty years of the cow’s life, living as† beasts of burden to support the family.†
†
Finally†retired at 60, humans live their years as monkeys, serving and amusing†young tots, especially grandchildren left in their care by parents†serving their time as beasts of burden.†
†
Reaching age 70, the next 10 years is spent like a dog sitting† on†the front porch, barking when someone walks in through the gate. With†unsteady and crackling voice comes the sound of the doorbell: ‘May Tao!’
†
Now you know who’s to blame for all this!
