I DIDN’T dream of becoming a shoe doctor ‘when I grow up’
but I am quite proud of this recent handiwork of mine.
†
†
Actually, it was more of a rescue job more than a repair job.
†
I did this on our way down during our Mt. Sembrano climb last month. †The pair of legs in the photo belongs to my colleague and climbing compatriot, Sherwin De Jesus. †He bought a ‘new’ pair of hiking shoes from UK (i.e. Ukay-Ukay) in preparation for that particular climb. †He was quite proud of his ‘lucky’ find. †If I am not mistaken he was bragging that his shoes bore the Rockport brand. †WOW, sounds expensive!
†
Sherwin’s Rockport shoes looked good going into the climb. †Alas, with just about a klick away from completing the climb, all of a sudden about six inches of its left sole (from the heel) dangled precariously. †It was impossible for him to go on with that condition of his left shoe, notwithstanding that the end of our hike was merely a stone’s throw away.
That’s when Mr. Quickie — yours truly — came to the rescue. †’Twas a good thing I am a “serial tapist” — I always bring a roll of duct tape and some black garbage bags with me when going on hikes and other outdoor activities (Do I remind you of the serial killers and ‘salvage cops’ that you watch on TV?). †On that particular climb I ran out of duct tapes so I brought along a roll of masking tape (my next favorite) which did the job just as well.
†
That wasn’t really my first shoe rescue. †When we climbed Mt. Pico De Loro last year I also rescued a Nike with — guess what? — a bandaging tape from my First Aid Kit!
†
Don’t you think I may be in the wrong job?

Sirking1991> Oh yeah! Thanks for reminding me about my “work of art” in Makiling. I’m proud of that, too. Cost me a whole roll of silver duct tape. In the end it was not enough to save Melani’s shoes, though.
Bong,
You forgot to mentions Melanie’s rubber shoes when we’re going to Mt. Makiling.
Thanks Mr. Quickie!
