China speaks out!

I WAS at the night market in ShenZhen, China in late February when this caught my attention. †Using my iPhone 3G, I snapped a photo right away.

Now I have something original to contribute to the growing collection of hilarious “Chinglish” (i.e. Chinese-English) that has been going around through email forwards for quite some time now. †BTW, a comprehensive collection can be found on www.engrish.com, so if you want some honest-to-goodness entertainment, go ahead and visit the Website.

BTW, while we laugh at these funny “errors” in the use of the English language we should admire the people who commit them, the Chinese most especially. †Having isolated themselves from the rest of the world for so long, I think they are progressing quite well if you ask me. †Not so far away in the future they’ll be as comfortable with the English language as some of us would like to believe. †If China is already being considered a Super Power even now that its people can hardly put together a decent English sentence, what more when they have already established a certain level of mastery of the language. †Most probably it will be they, not us, who would be laughing.
