FOR CATHOLICS, last Sunday (December 14) was the Third Sunday of Advent.
Among the Catholic visitors of this blog, who knows why one of the four candles of Advent has an odd color (pink instead of purple) and what does it mean?
There are, of course, Four Candles of Advent — three purple and one pink . †I’ve always wondered about the odd color.
The first candle is the Candle of Prophecy/Hope.
The second candle is the Candle of The Way.
The third — and pink — candle is the Candle of Joy.
The fourth candle is the Candle of Peace.
In the Catholic religious tradition pink has been associated with Joy or rejoicing, thus the pink third Candle of Advent.
I learned this Catholic trivia on the Homily given by the priest who celebrated mass last Sunday at the Sacred Heart of Jesus church In Makati.
I also learned last Sunday that the third Sunday of Advent is the one and only day in the year that priests get to wear a pink-colored Stole. †A Stole is†a long piece of cloth about four inches wide and nine feet long. †The center of the stole is worn around the back of the neck and the two ends hang down parallel to each other in front, either attached to each other or hanging loose.
