‘Blue Moon’ and waiting blues with John and Yoko

JOHN AND YOKO, the ever full, ìplease wait to be seatedî Cosmopolitan-Japanese resto at the 2nd level of Greenbelt 5 in Makati City, was host to the latest of what the Boys and Girls of P. Campa have come to call a ëBlue Moon.í It was a Tuesday, November 25.

John and Yoko was a refreshing change from our now ìalmost permanentî meeting place in Robinsonís-Pioneer in Mandaluyong. There were the usual four of us:Mann, Mitz, Allan and myself. No wonder our get-togethers have dwindled from occasional, to seldom, to almost none, hence, the ìblue moonî label. But this blue moon was supposed to be different. We were to have a special guest of honor, Malou Patdu, one of the long-lost Children of Six and my ìappointed sisterî among the Boys and Girls of P. Campa.Malou came all the way from London to break bread with us.

While anxiously waiting for Malou we got started with the food.We chose between Big in Japan and There Goes Your Diet, both huge combo platters good for 4-5 persons, and settled for the former. It was about 8:30PM and we were all famished so we didnít waste any time in getting acquainted with Big in Japan. Everything on it was very good.

Meanwhile, Malou was getting lost somewhere in EDSA.What was she thinking, BTW?Sheís been away for at least seven years working in a country where people drive on the wrong side of the road and here she was driving alone from San Fernando, Pampanga to Makati during rush hour. She must be nuts! But then again thatís Malou for you.

By 9:30 PM our Big in Japan platter was all but history.Malou was still nowhere near Greenbelt 5.She was within 30 minutes when Mann last talked to her on the phone.Either Mann is a poor navigator or the road signs in EDSA suck but somehow Malou managed to go back to Ortigas and then Greenhills before finally making it to Makati CBD.

It was close to 10:00 PM when John and Yoko finally welcomed Malou. We wasted no time in ordering dessert as we tried, in vain, to fill each other in on the 16 years since we last saw Malou and the rest of the Children of Six.It doesnít matter that much.We are just glad that there are things that donít change over time, like our extra-ordinary friendship, our common love for good food, and Malouís unladylike laugh.

I see more blue moons in the horizon. #
