My first 50 days with the iPhone 3G

OK, I NOW CONFESS. †I am an iPhone 3G user.

My boss, Jose Eduardo C. Delgado (JED) sweet talked me into getting one. †(He is paying for half the P5,000 monthly charges so I cannot really complain.)

JED got his iPhone 3G about a month ahead of me. †His iPhone replaced his Nokia E90 Communicator. †As far as I can tell he is happy to have made the switch.

So how do I find the iPhone 3G after approximately 50 days of using it?

Before laying my hands on the iPhone 3G I was using an old Treo 650 as my primary Smart Phone. †I haven’t really dumped my Treo. †I am still using it as my “other primary” Smart Phone. †After all, I am still locked in to my post paid plan with Smart until March 2009 so I might as well use my Treo for it.

I love my Treo! †Which may be a bit unfair to the iPhone because I do have very high expectations going into it coming from my Treo experience.

Top-3 Minus Points

Already, I am starting to have pet peeves on my iPhone. †Here are some of them:

  1. I can’t copy and paste. †This has been an issue since the first version of iPhone but I think the people in iPhone are too arrogant to admit that they were wrong in not including this most basic of features. †My guess is, they simply forgot about it when they were desiging the first version of iPhone. †And then their arrogance made them stood by this “omission,” falling back on the age-old infamous escape clause of software vendors: †”it’s a feature not a bug, stupid.” †We’ll it’s stupid.
  2. I can’t forward text messages. †Hmpt. †#$%@&($&^!!! Okay, enough cursing.
  3. Very short battery life. †I need to re-charge every day. †True. ;-(

Top-3 Plus Points

On the flip side, I am all too glad that I now use the iPhone. †It is…

  1. Great for E-mail Reading. †Also for short/quick E-mail replies/forwards.
  2. Decent enough for Web browsing. †It’s the available Internet signal that sucks, 3G nothwithstanding, so I don’t blame it on the iPhone. †This should improve, soon hopefully, with the telcos racing to get the lion’s share in the fast growing Internet access market.
  3. Sleek and cool design. †The iPhone simply looks great. †You do feel good using it.

Perhaps it’s too early for me to judge the iPhone. †I know it has lots of potential, even for business applications, and I look forward to becoming more intimate with this sexy gadget. †After all, we’re just in the getting-to-know-you-better stage. ;-)
