600 MILLION!† That’s the average number of text messages sent in the Philippines every day, according to latest available statistics.

With approximately 50 million active cellphone users (some recent reports say there are now 55 million), that’s an average of 12 text messages sent from every single cellphone user every day.
600 million. That’s a lot!
But did you know that there was a single 24-hour period when texting in the Philippines peaked at 1.39 billion?† That’s 139 with seven trailing zeroes and three commas!
It was registered on New Yearís eve (Dec 31, 2007).† On the same day, India registered just a little over one billion text messages.† To fully appreciate the comparison one just needs to remember that the population of the Philippines is about 85 million (about 50 million of which are cellphone users), just a tiny fraction of India’s 1.13 billion population (220 million of which are cellphone users).

Pingback: PH is still world’s SMS capital | A ëWonderfulí Blog
Thanks for dropping a comment on my blog, MVP. I haven’t seen any report which says that China, or any other country for that matter, has overtaken PH in texting. But I wouldn’t be surprised at all if China, in fact, takes the title soon.
Being called the text capital of the world is not exactly something we should be proud of.
R u sure China is not the new texting capital? RP’s population is just a small fraction of China’s. China’s economy is also booming and cellphone penetration is very high.
