Johan’s First Day in School

WE’VE ALL PREPARED FOR THIS DAY. I, his mom, his yaya, and our whole household have been anxiously waiting for this day. His Ate Marielle was excited to ‘initiate‘ her little brother in her school. After all, she’s been going to school for the third year now.

Johan is enrolled in the pre-nursery class of a preschool run by nuns, the same school his Ate Marielle is going to.

Johan intently listening to his teacher.

We were worried about a lot of things. Johan seems to have inherited the temper of his mom and the mischief of his dad so we were worried that he’ll bully other kids, that he’ll defy his teachers, that he’ll cling to his yaya like Marielle did for more than a month from her first day in school.

We deliberately planned for Johan not to report to school yet on June 10.First, because his mom couldn’t free up her schedule to be with Johan in this important milestone in his life. And second, so he would join his class when it has already settled down a bit.

At last the big day came. June 11. Johan’s first ever day in school.

Johan actively participating in class activities.

Surprise, surprise. Johan wasn’t only behaving exceptionally well. He was actively responding to his teacher, participating in the class activities, and correctly following instructions. He was also displaying an attention span I didn’t know he was capable of until then. Best of all, he seemed to be at home in the classroom. He was oblivious of his mom, yaya, and dad. Why, we could have left him on his own right on his first day in school.

Johan manifested his other side right when he should. He was exuding the intelligence and social graces of his mom and the meekness and sweet-natured-ness of his dad (no objections please).

He’s immaculately handsome, too, with his characteristic grin radiating in his white and light-blue uniform.

I’m one proud dad.#
